Good strings/ghetto rig

If I'm only playing through a small guitar amp (10 watt/6" speaker) or a processor & headphones, would I hear a difference between the $10 Hartke strings I'm using now and good ones?

I bought the Hartkes because that's about all the dough I had at the time, and intended to restring with D'addarios, SIT, Rotosound, etc.... but I got to wondering if it would be worth the extra money.

Strings

I've bought those Hartke strings before and I personally notice no difference in sound or longevity when compared to what I consider lower level strings like GHS Bass Boomers or similar priced strings. Back in the early 90's Boomers were super cheap now they've become like Rotosounds were then. I myself prefer the stainless steel type instead of the nickel though. New strings always sound better than old.

What are low cost daddies?

To be quite honest, I'm pretty happy with the Hartkes. They still sound bright and hold their tune, just like when I put them on. Now, I've never tried anything else, so I have nothing to compare them to. But I am getting tones I really dig, so if it won't make much difference, I'd rather buy a 3-pack of them for $20 and be set for a long time

low cost D'addario strings. compare the colors on the ball ends, as well as the way they are wrapped.

Ya know, I did wonder about colored ball ends. Seems like the sort of thing D'addario would've patented. Does D'addario actually have a Chinese factory? The Hartke packaging claims they're made there.
