Wink Good strings for Megadeth and Iron Maiden style of playing.

I have a traben array standard 4 string bass that has a decently low action. What would be some good strings for me to try that would give me more of a Megadeth, Cliff Burton(Metallica), and Iron maiden kinda of a feel. I want to play fast and MEAN, any suggestions?

Depends what type of sound you are after , Cliff burtons sound is quite a lot darker than Iron maiden orMegadeths bassists sound , I will assume you are after a bright kind of sound and would recommend Daddario Pro steels for that bright type of sound

i would say flats, i know burton used flats at one point and i know steve harris has his own pair of flats from rotosound, try some nice flatwounds on and see. a warning though, flatwounds sound dull and boring when played by yourself but in a band environment, they sound great.

+1

Add some distortion and play near the bridge... love the tone. My PBass sounds awesome with a little dirt.

Well I guess basically the thing is I think play more like steve harris of Iron maiden, but I want to play as fast a megadeth, whilst having the tone of cliff burton. If that helps any. I have been playing for like 5 years with a whatever attitude towards buying whatever was there ya know but now I want to make my own sound that I can live with ha ha.

Is there any like in between strings that could work like that cause I like to do stuff by myself but than play with others at the same time and obviously its not convienant to change my strings or bass evertime I want to do one or the other. ha ha.

You'll want roundwounds. It's rather simple to make rounds mimic flats, but flats can never come close to rounds.

While I don't agree that roundwounds can sound like flatwounds, sure you can roll off the highs and get a darker sound...I will agree that roundwounds would be your best choice.I played in a Metal band that did alot of Iron Maiden covers and found to get that Harris brightness and clank, the Rotosound 66 Swing Bass set worked best for me.
