Well, Claypool uses Carl Thompson strings. Newsted uses SITs or Dean Markleys, last time I checked.

I'm a big fan of the DRs, I use the XL Coated ones.
If you don't mind really coarse strings, Markley Blue Steels are nice...except they have really short life. I dunno, what kind of bass are you using?

Well, lighter strings are usually better for slap...

DRs would probably be the way to go.

DRs, FatBeams, HighBeams or low riders. Stay away from roundwould stings IMO.
I'm using DA Chromes flatwounds, and guess what, they work for hardrock, listen to Iron Maden and AC/DC & Sabath those are flats you're hearing.

I'm in a similar pickle (if you could call it that??), lookin to re-string and on certain advice searched out some dean markleys (for a good metal sound) but for some damn reason i can't get them over this part of the world.

DR strings were also recommended but what's the deal with stringin them (i hear it's not so straight forward) anyway, would a set of medium ernie slinky's suffice as they seem to be the only damn string they sell over here (i've tried rotosound and elites but fancy something different).

Can I make the first Justice joke?

Just take your strings off, that will give you the definitive ...And Justice for All tone.
