Good Strings For Psych Rock

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all - I play a Fender MM Jazz Bass (usually in passive mode) in a loud psych rock band, and I'm looking for some suggestions on new strings. I've been playing flats for a while (not sure what kind) and I like the feel and tone - I tried half rounds and they were nice, but I feel like my A,D,& G strings were too quiet (compared to flats). I play mostly with a heavy pick, and that's one of the reasons I strayed from rounds - they just sounded too metallic and trebly with a pick. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I'm in a space/prog rock band, and whenever I get the itch for flats, I usually turn to D'Addario Chromes. I say Chromes because they would complement the snappy tone of a Jazz bass since they're bright for a flatwound string already. I had them on my P-bass for about a year and a half (before I went through a rounds phase), and even after that long they still had plenty of life. They feel and sound great. Worth a try IMO.

Thanks Bassman! That's actually the direction I was leaning, so I'll go ahead and give 'em a try. Thanks again for the advice!
