Goofy acoustic "bass" strings

Sign in to disble this ad
So a few weeks ago I bought a cheap acoustic bass off a friend, which is either called a Hora or has no name, but either way is made in Romania (just mentioning to give you an idea of ht cheapness).

Anyways, the strings that are on this thing, which I'm assuming are stock, tricked me and a few other folks who tried it out into thinking they were flatwounds at first. They feel smooth like flatwounds, but don't look like em. After looking at em I realized all they really are is a set of fat guitar strings. They seem to be wound like normal bass strings and are about the same thickness, but the wrapped/coiled wire is very, very thin, like that used on the lower strings of a guitar.

As for sound, I'd say they're pretty mellow, but that could just be because they're on an acoustic. Oddly enough, they're still barely slappable.

Anyway, I just wanted to share and give you folks something interesting to think about. It'd be cool if someone could identify these strings or even the bass, or maybe some strings that are like these, but no worries if you can't.
