Got my first La Bella flats -- and they broke!

Based on the high opinions here I ordered a set of La Bella 760FL flats from juststrings.com, they arrived Saturday and I put them on. After about an hour of walking bass lines (no slapping or popping) the G string sounded off, more dead than the others. Weird I thought, and started messing with the amp settings to see if that made a difference.

A few minutes of playing later and POW! the G string snapped off from the bridge!

What broke? The wire around the copper ball behind the back of the bridge hole.

So I'm pissed, but not giving up on La Bella. I assume this was just a single defective string and so I've ordered another G from juststrings.com to give this set another chance.

But I'm still pissed!

What bass were they on? String through bridge or body?

Fender P-Bass (custom shop '59 reissue) through the old-school vintage bridge.

Definitely. That's a manufacturing defect (happens to even the best sometimes) and I'm sure they'll replace it, though it's a bit late now.

+2. Describe your situation to them and I'm sure they'll send you a replacement string.

I don't know how much to bother with it. It cost me just $12.50 to replace it, hopefully it never happens again. I'm just venting.
