I'll geauss thats a tone tweak your looking for on your current bass, which isnt giving you quite enough of that. Try Ernie Ball slinkys. They help accent crunch and growl for basses a bit shy of that. Rotosound might also do for bit less trebly sound tweak with plenty of growl and such. Flatwounds would diff be a backward step for sound your after imo. Roundwounds gonna do it much better.

Definitely NOT flats. Jeez.

I agree with Dunlop nickel rounds. Also DR Sunbeams or Nickel Lo Riders. SIT Power Wound nickels are also nice and the cheapest of the bunch.

Thanks. The suggestions of Flats surprised me too but hey... I'm always one open to learning and trying something different...

+1 And for the price of the Dunlops there is no reason to play anything else IMHO. I was a long time DR guy and these blew me away. They last forever too.

Circle K Balanced on my Jazz bass w/ SD Quarter Pounders + GK amps= Major Growl and Punch. I am not sure if strings alone will give growl and punch.

I just slapped on a new set of D'addario EXL170's and they blew me away. Ballsy, in your face tone. Love it.

Dunlop's don't sound as mid present as the D'Addario's do, and they last longer. I used D'Addario for many years before the Dunlop strings came along. I still like D'Addario, but the Dunlop's work better for me.
