HA! finally broke my first bass string...lol

So I have been learning the Awakening...Les Claypool's cover verson....originally by the Reddings

And its got a good bit of popping obviously.

So im trucking along and I hear a thud out of my speakers, since I play through my computer. I look around and think to myself "hmm I didnt bang my arm or bass on anything"

I look around some more..."no I didnt know my cup of juice over...or something off my bed down either"

*looks at bass* "crap I popped my G...."

Its basically stretched out down at the saddle and flopping around now haha. I just found it funny that in 5 years of playing it finally happened, though I know guys who have played for 20 years and never done it. And they play way more aggressive than I.

They were the stock string on an SX PJ bass. Feel free to make string suggestions though. I normally use Steve Harris rounds though.

And quick question....should I relieve the tension on the neck for the time being by down un winding the remaining strings just a bit?

I think that the only string I have not broken so far is the D. I snapped the low E on one of my fretless Fenders last week (2 days before a gig) I had to drive all over the region to locate a new set of flats on such short notice.

Leave the strings and neck as they are. Just replace the string... or all strings. Search TB for discussions.

i'm sure you realize it's all about touch. (as long as your gear isn't faulty)

Inspect the saddle for buhrs or sharp edges. leave the other strings as they are untiil you get new set on. my buddy regularly breaks strings during sets, he plays finger style in a funk jam band. the other guys (guitarist drummer) just vamp the the song out until he gets it changed. !?!?! -from mobile
