Half rounds the next logical step?

I have been using flat wounds. Recently received another bass for Christmas. It has round wounds on it. Took it to rehearsal and everyone said that I am cutting through more. I hate the highs that come from rounds, but I like the mids. My question is would a set of half rounds give me the best of both worlds?

Basses used:
Squier VM Jag SS
Squier VM Mustang

Type of music:
Southern rock, Blues rock, Classic rock

Ken Smith Compressors.
GHS Pressurewounds.

Both the above will give you than midrange without the high top end.

Roll back the tone control? Just a suggestion.

I've tried the strings nmentioned above and they will do it for you. I would also consider a nickel strings like DR Sunbeams or Sadowksky Blue Nickel. I like the tension better with Blue Nickels which is stiffer than the Sunbeams, but not as much as most half or flat wounds.

Yup, if you like the little bit more broken in sound this is best for new strings. Rounds will allways sound better to me then flats or halfround.
