halfwond strings in pop punk.. sort of weird if you ask me to think about

i'm having problems with my bass sounding floppy. i play in a pop punk band and we played a show the other day in which my tone was less then satisfactory, contrary to my usually thick and low sound. i play a copy of the fender mike dirnt p bass. i have everything that the dirnt has except my pickups are bassline quarter pounders and the neck is exactly between a jazz and a p bass neck with some real nice fender tuning machines and a bad ass II bridge.

i was doing searches on dropped c# tuning tips and i saw that somebody suggested halfwound strings to one person. i would like to know if halfwounds would help me sound less floppy and more punchy and low.

Going up a little bit in string gauge would probably help more than switching to halfwounds without changing the tone of your bass. But what kind of pop punk band plays in C#!?

Jimmy Eat World tunes to C. They're pop punk from what I hear, although most real punks would beat the crap out of them

I use flats in my pop-punk band. With a pick, I get some well defined, thumpy tones no problem, but just using heavier guage strings would help too

Most Pop Punk bands now use drop tunings, mostly Drop D than Drop C# though. But Paramore use Drop C#!
