Hartke HSB 550 Nickels??

Sign in to disble this ad
Well been waiting over a month for my 2 sets of Lakland strings I ordered for my 55-01. Dont know if I am getting the run around from Lakland or just really bad luck with the snail mail folks. Anyway, went to clean out my gig bag and I found this new set of Hartke HSB 550 Medium Nickel wounds. I may just throw em on for a gig this Friday. I can always take em off if they suck but at least they are new, my strings on my 55-01 are going on 2 yrs old. I think these are from a Bassplayer mag promo, I forgot I even had em. Package says long scale, may have to string thru bridge this time, I'll see. Anybody ever try and like their free set?

With as much as I'm playing lately, with jazz band rehearsal's every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, along with my own prog band getting of the ground, I'm glad to say that the Hartke's on my Peavey T-40 are still bright and slappable.

They're just starting to mellow out to where I like them (about a month; usually three weeks with my regular D'addario's). They cost $20 at my local shop; it was either these or Snarling Dog's for the same price. D'addario's were $25.

I use D'Addario XL's most of the time, but I ended up having 4 sets of Hartke strings (an acquaintance sent me a three pack and Larry Hartke sent me a fourth) and I've been known to use those on occasion and can hardly tell the difference (have to check the ball ends to find out sometimes.)

Cool, thanks for replies...

I was getting desperate cause of my Lakland strings MIA. Well I stopped the mail slug at the box just now and he dug thru the crap in the truck and found my strings, idiot. So now I am stuck thinking I'd like to try the nickels on my 55-01 instead of going back to the SS, fingertips are beat to hell. And now I also want to try the nickels on my Cirrus, But since you guys say the Hartkes aren't bad maybe I can try them on the Cirrus and if I dont like them I'll put the Lakland SS on it and still use the Lakland nickels on my 55-01 like I wanted to. Right now the Cirrus has some Fodera Diamond SS and they sound very good but feel like barbed wire when I play it. Well here goes, we'll see whats what. later.
