Sign in to disble this ad
So I'm on a rather extreme budget right now (just finished college and no job), and needed some new strings (my D broke and they were getting old anyway) so I opted to get some budget Hartke .050-.105 strings for $10. Any opinions on these strings? Once they get here and I get them strung up, I'll post a review.

They're like my secret little "broke guy" weapon. They're very bright and, IMO, sound awesome on Fenders.
Now, they aren't nearly as cool as a set of Hi-Beams, IMO, but for $10? I always use them on Jazz/P-Basses, and save the nicer strings for the Pedulla/Spector.

Overall, soundwise I think they are just as good as EB and they stay brighter longer (good if you are like me and live that snappy tone).
Definitely worth the $10 bucks. Even if you don't like them they are especially great as backups since they are so inexpensive.

I wasn't crazy about their tonal properties either. (Then again, that might have been the bass itself.) He said he has a light gauge on his Dean and that they are brand new strings, but they feet very heavy and old to me. I found them hard to bend and well just uncomfortable to my fingers. But for $10 they'd work in a pinch if need be.

I have used thier light gauge sets on my 4 and five string fretteds before and had no qualms with them, and even though I prefer others I had no problems with their sound or longevity. |

They are a bit more rough than my previous set and considerably brighter, but that will give me a chance to get my chops back after my long hiatus (hard year of college). All in all, they sound pretty good so far. And at $10 a set, you can't beat that with a stick!

American Musical Supply was selling three sets for $25.
