Heads or tails?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been holding onto a package of fresh DR Hi-Beams MR-45's. It's time to put 'em on but I'm curious to see which bass they'd be better for; My Geddy or my EBMM Stingray? The Stingray still has a fresh set on it since I just got it last weekend (I'm assuming they'd be Ernie Ball's but I don't know what gauge the stock strings came with). The Geddy Jazz has the stock strings on it also (again I'm guessing they'd be Fender strings but unknown gauge) but they've been on for nearly a year & a half.

Thanks,
Rush Fan

I have read at this site and others that the Geddy Lee model, due to its thin neck, at times for some owners have experienced problems with medium gauge strings on those necks. I have no experience in this department and I am not an owner, but you might want to check out some threads about it before putting the set on.

Geddy himself uses standard gauge Rotosounds on all of his fretted basses (really want to know what he uses on his Jaco), and I think the standard Rotos are about the same as any other medium gauge.

To answer your question, the Geddy. Replacing new strings on one, when the other has old, old strings is just kinda silly to me.

Geddy I think I read keeps his Jaco with everything the way it came since "it's Jaco's". So I'm guessing it's strings as well but I'm not certain since he's such a Rotosound supporter.

Yeah it would be silly for me to do that. But what I was attempting to say was whichever bass would work better with the DR's I'd get a new pack for the other bass. I think I'm leaning toward throwing the DR's on the Stingray and staying safe with the Geddy & going with what the Fender site says it came with since I'm concerned about the next bow that fretlessguys referenced earlier. I think though that mediums come with the bass stock.

Thanks you guys for the feedback. It's helped a lot.

I have Rotosound Swingbass 45 to 105 installed on my Geddy Jazz. You might need to do a minor tweak of the truss rod (tighten)...but it's worth it. The stock strings on a Geddy are 7350's Stainless 45 to 105 there is just a little more tension in the Rotosounds.

I saw Geddy talk about his Jaco bass and he said that he has done nothing to it so I am thinking the strings are Fender Stock also
