Heavier strings = more volume?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got a Stingray that has string to string volume issues. The G string does not have the same weight as the other string in a band setting. I've tried different brands, guages, and I've tried adjusting the pickup and string height. None of these seem to do much. the one thing I haven't done is put a heavy G with a light E-A-D. I'm considering buying a .40-.95 set and a .50-1.05 nad just swapping G strings. Any suggestions?

its an inherent design component of the stingray, and even sterling ball admits to this "flaw".

put a G&L L2000 pickup (which will fit exactly) in a musicman casing. Now you have individually adjustable poles. Make sure your G string is as close as you can get it while playing at the highest fret. Now make the other poles extra low. That should do it.

Use D'Addario's tension chart and see how close from one string to the next your tension is.

Normally there is more tension on the treble side and this is okay, but any more than a pound or two from one string to the next is less than desirable IMO
