Heavy 4 string set for EADG?

Sign in to disble this ad
In one of my bands I downtune to DGCF for a few tunes. With 45-105 set it will work, but is not as tight as I would like it. Anyone use the BEAD strings from a 5 string set, and tune them EADG? Or do you think the string tension at that tuning would be too much? I can bring 2 basses but would prefer to use only one and detune as necessary. Using the heavier strings would permit me to have a tight downtuned action. Just wonder if its too much tension on the strings and the bass if I did most stuff with heavy strings tuned to EADG.

Something around 55-75-90-110 should be fine. Ernie Ball or DR.

This is a great question for a "Strings" forum. If only we had one...
