Hi,
I want to try some Rotosound 50-110 flats but reckon they bend my neck too much. I've got a Yamaha BB404 (which has a slim neck which I like) and 40-100 roundwounds

I would like to get a second bass to leave set up with the heavy flats but haven't got a clue what bass to get. Something cheap and secondhand preferably.

PS

Are Squires any good. I don't know much about basses and just assumed they were a cheap Jap copy of a USA Fender?

Since they are not made in Japan...

I'm a Rotosound flats guy and even the standard guages are some of the highest tension strings on the market. I personally would not go with the heavy guage but that's me.
For what it's worth

The Steve Harris signature set turned my old P bass into a bow and arrow. They are great strings, but I'd recommend going with a lighter gauge if you plan on playing in standard tuning.

They will also make your nut grooves wider then when u go back to normal gauge your strings will move around in the nut adding buzzin & all sorts of problems..lesson I learned in the 90s..
