Heavy w/long lasting tone

I play metal, only fingers, always drop C.
I keep the action high w/plenty of neck relief because I play so hard, I don't like fretbuzz.
I've been using heavy GHS roundwound Boomers (115) for years, simply because they are bright, feel fresh on my fingers every time, and seem to be the only strings that keep their tone for so long... I change strings every 3-5 months- I know this is a lot for bass but I play a lot and like em bright.

I've noticed from the tb forum not many people like or use these strings. I'd like to hear what other people recommend for this style/sound.

Thx

also, Has anyone tried the sub-zero bass boomers? If so what are the differences? feel? tone? etc.?

I used to use Boomers exclusively (for like 8 years). Then at some point I switched to various flatwounds. Later I went back to roundwounds, but I tried nickel D'Addario XL's, and have been using them ever since. Lately I use the ProSteels, which are much brighter.

One day I needed new strings (I change mine every 5 to 6 weeks on average...) and I saw a set of low B Boomers. I figured what the heck, I used to love them. Well I HATED them! First off a new set of Boomers sounded like the three month old D'Addario XL's!

Also the low B was awful.. it felt lose and floppy and undefined. In general they feel looser, but I had to tighten my two truss rods quite a bit (this in a 7 piece maple purple heart neck with graphite) which shows they are higher tension.

They lasted on my bass two days, which was the soonest I could get a set of XL's.

Also... if you like the nickel XL's, the twin back is only slightly more then a single set!

The ProSteel are brighter, and last easily three months and hardly lose their brightness.
