Hello Everyone, noob here

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello! I've been playing bass guitar for 4 years, on and off. I bought a Fender 4 String Standard Precision bass 4 years ago. I'm looking into getting new bass guitar strings, but I'm new at this, and have never replaced my strings before (i feel like a noob now..). Please give me any advice that you have.. I was looking into these:http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-FEN-0737250-LIST

When they break or when they are dead (then again, many people love the sound of dead strings).

I replace strings when they sound beat.
Also, stainless sound great but in my 28+ years of playing I know that brightness dies in a week. DR's, as Mike suggested, are great strings that last AND won't destroy your frets, either. I use nickel and they last a while, tone stays consistent as opposed to the rapid death of that great pianoesque stainless tone we love them for...they're also fret friendly.
It's all preference, my man...I like nickel for longevity, but DR's are a great string that will last.
Be well.

Clarification: Nickel plated stainless is what I was referring to above...

Happy Holidays!

No, but here's a good string installation guide with pictures that was originally published in Bass Player in the 1990's.

I reccomend just trying different strings. Experiment, shop around, etc, until you find the kind you think are best. Also, i recommend medium gauge...
