Help! Looking For A Different Sound

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Fellow TBers, I need your help.

I'm using a new 5string set of Roto SB66ers (.055 .070 .090 .105 .120) and I just can't dig their sound. I've only been using them for a couple weeks, so they're probably not really broken in, but still I'm looking for a change. I need something that sounds thicker and deeper.

If it matters: My axe has a graphite neck with a M.Dolan P and a G&L 2500 pup; it runs into a Low End True Voice tube pre, Carvin DCM1000 and a Schroeder 310212. This 5er is to play stuff like STP, Nickleback, Metallica, Godsmack, etc.

The Fender flats I've tried (don't recall which) were much too stiff, but I know the TI flats would be too limp for my tastes So I need something in between.

Would the La Bella 760FM fit? Aside of gauge, is there much difference with the FLs?
Certainly they're stiffer than the TIs; do you think they're less stiff than the Fenders?

Thanks for any & all help here.

I love the DR Lowriders For drop tunings, They keep their stiffness . they seem to fit what your looking for.........Great midrange punch for the hard rock songs.

Check out D'Addario Chromes. They have a wide range of usable sounds considering it's a flatwound, have a nice midrange thump, and have a great pick sound.

Yeah, actually I'm in the process of putting together a used parts 4string on which I plan to install DR LowRiders. With this 5er, I'm really looking to push the lows and low mids.

I've been cruising the strings section quite a bit, but I forgot about the Chromes; that's possible.

Anybody compared the LaBella FLs to the FMs? I'm guessing little difference, but...

Well, since I already know I dig the La Bella 760s on a fretless 4, I went ahead and ordered the 760FM-B set for my fretted 5.
Reckon I'll just see what they do for me.

Thanks MNTallPaul & Wootsticks.
