OK I resently bought a Fender Jaguar Bass and I loved the Fender strings it came with, but It's been about two weeks and they are already getting all frictiony and hard to play with.... So, I was thinking 'buy some coated strings'; however, they don't give me the funky "twang" when I pop them, that I'm looking for. Got any Ideas?

I would buy Elixer. I you'st to buy them but.......... Guitar Center bought out another company that was here and they don't carry them. So I was forced to buy DR Extra-Life Black Beauties, but their just not the same.

DR Hi-beams. Absurdly bright when you pull them out of the package; they sounded like a harpsichord to me. Anyway, that doesn't last for all that long, but after a few weeks they'll just be really bright-sounding, and then pretty bright, and that's where they are for me right now, almost three months of hard use later. I'm considering getting a new set now. Although they still sound good, I miss the super twangy sound they used to have.

Anyway, they're bright, twangy, and last a long time. Worth the high price tag, IMHO. If you like them, you can get by on them longer before buying a new set, which makes up for the price. Oh, and they're also pretty smooth-feeling for steel rounds.

Nice. I'll look into those. One of my buddies was telling me about Blue Steel but that they die like after two weeks of playing.

Twang? D'Addario Pro Steels. Here are some on my Ric with a touch of reverb:

Take what your friend says lightly. Everyone goes through strings at a different rate. His hands may be very acidic, yours not so much.

Blue Steels may be the best string for you.

You'll just have to try out many different sets over a long time to find what works for you.

This might help:
