help me choose some strings!

Sign in to disble this ad
hey there all folks!

i was looking for some strings for my Squier Precision Special V bass ( 2 j pups, sadowsky's humcanceling , american fender j electronics, cts, and some hipshot tuners ) that i have strung now with some old Fodera SS diamond.

i like a full sound, not to zingy (no Slinkyes) and i like some good growly lows. i had a MM stingray and a 'vette strung with some D'addario and i loved them, especially on the vick. they sounded great, thumpy, growly and so easy to slap.

now, i don't slap often (because i am not very experienced) but i am learning an want to slap. those strings sounded great, the thumping was full and deep even on the G string. i don't know if there was because of the bass, or the strings, but, i kind of want that strings.

the owner that had it before me said that were some d'adario Xl, but don't know which.

i tried some sadowskys nikel blue label on my uncle's ibanez and i found them to mid-centered strings. don't like them very much.

i am opened to any kind of strings, but i want some growly ones with good highs. please help me with sugestions and arguments.

p.d: i like this tone alot : !wow!

Try some Rotosound nickel plated rounds. I just bought a 3rd set for my MIA Fender P. They can be really zingy at first but once broken in they have a really nice tone that is similar to what you are asking for. You might also want to try a set of DR sunbeams.

I'm going to second Rotosounds. I use their Swing Bass sets (stainless roundwound) on both my Fender Jazz and Gibson Tbird and love them, wouldn't even think about trying something else right now!

Depends what you play I guess though, my band do hard rock and I find them perfect, also I really dig them for heavier metal genres and they still sound good if I'm playing quietly along to an acoustic guitar.

If you didn't find anything you liked in those, I'm not sure what you're looking for.

SIT Silencers maybe? I didn't see any half-rounds on your list so they might be what you need.

DR Nickel Low Beams. Not as zingy or loose as High Beams and with a nice low-mid growl.

I think you mean Low Riders. And yeah, great strings. I've never been disappointed in any of DR's offerings.

i do like those d'addario y had but i said i don'y know wich one were they.

i know they were XL but don't know if they were prosteels or nikel wounds.

i said i tried sadowskys and i don't really like nickel (to mid centered).

this months i'll buy a set but i need to thing about it good... i don't want to pay 30 € (40 or more $ ) and hate them.

any experience with the prosteels vs nickel ones?

Could also be Hi Beams or Fat Beams.

I'll suggest Sunbeams, they're nickel so no zing, full mid and bottom.
Roll the tone up for slap, and off for old school thump.
