Help me find taperwound strings for my Lakland...

Sign in to disble this ad
I've noticed the immense improvement taperwound B- and E-strings make to the tightness on the sound of my Lakland 55-60:

But they seem to be impossible to find. I'm not planning to string those two strings through the body, and I'd like a quite regular .045-.125 or .045-.130 set. Any tips?

Howdy,

I've been using Dean Markley SR200 sets on my 5 string Lightwave as they seem to fit the (admittedly odd) bridge quite well. Looking at the package, it says MC 5STG and the gauges run .047-.127. Pretty close to what you're looking for.

Keep in mind that I've been a rotosound guy for years, but I'd say the Markleys are medium bright. Good snap and ping on the upper strings, a nice full but lively tone on the lower. The low B is very good, but a lot of that may have to do with the Lightwave. I'd think the Lakland would be comparable on the B.

They have gold wraps up top if that's a consideration.

I have some Dean markley SR2000's sitting here but would need to open them and see how long the taper is.

The Taper on DR Long-Necks is really long so they will fit through the body.

GHS Progressives with the 'saddle huggers' are great strings. Probably the 'biggest' sounding strings I've ever used!

OH! I missed the key words... "I'm not planning to string those two strings through the body"

You are open to a lot of choices then...
