Help me identify string set, with tapered low B

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello guys,

I've just strung up my lakland 55-02 with DR lo-riders.
It is a 45-105 with 130 B, but the B is not tapered so I'm having trouble intonating it at the bridge.

There is a string set I've seen before that I would like to find out what it was.
It is long enough to go through body of 55-02/94 (35").
I think it had gray colored silk at the headstock area, and has that squiggly look up there.
It is tapered at the bridge so that the thin end just goes over the saddle.
Not sure what color the ball-ends were, but pretty sure it's either gold or silver.

Another question, is taper core same as tapered at the bridge?

Thanks!

Probably Fender 8250's. LaBella and Circle K also make great 5 string sets with tapered B's.

La Bella Hard Rockin' Steel and Slapper (not sure if they do 35")
Carvin Steel and Nickels (rebranded La Bellas that will do 35")
Ken Smith Rock Masters and Bass Burners
MTD
Sadowsky (Super Longs for 35")
Fender 8250s but they have a longer taper for thru body

I have the same issue on my B string. I use Dean Markely SR-2000 SS strings on my 35" scale bass. I believe the B, E and A are all taper-wound. I like them a lot. Tons of sustain.

Grey silk and tapered B would almost have to be Sadowsky stainless flats.

That's what I have and they are grey silk and have a tapered b. not many that do.

i thought sadowsky strings too but they don't clear the nut when string thru body.

i might get Lo-Rider's with a single 130B from Long Necks.
I heard the long necks are the same string but tapered.

try sadowsky XL's, though I'd double check if they are ok for string thru.

My apologies if you already know this: The B string saddle usually intonates closer to the bridge than the E saddle if the B is tapered. If you went from tapered to non-tapered, you will have to move the saddle quite a bit and probably in front of the E to get the intonation set.
