So here's the deal.
I've been using d'addario roundwound nickelplated 50-105 strings since a long time. I've used a set of dr hi-beams, but I didn't like them. I've also used ernie ball regular slinkys and I remember them as being nothing special.
About a year ago I bought a second hand tokai jazzsound from 82. When I bought it, the seller had put new strings on it. I simple loved the sound of the bass when played fingerstyle. It was so deep and punchy like i've never heard a bass. The only point that I didn't like was the fact that the highs were kind of mufled. They were very soft and not good for slapping imo. These were qualities a atributed to the bass and not as much to the strings. The strings allso have less tension then the d'addarios.
Yesterday I've bought a set of d'addario's like a allways buy and put them on the tokai. The bass had more high's. And sounded better for slapping. Put it sounded thin to me. Missing that lovely bass and punch it had before. I was very surprised with the sound. All the qualities I atributed to the bass, had a lot to do with the strings. I'm actually kind of disapointed with the new strings so here's my question. Does anyone know what kind of strings the original ones could be? They had black whire at the end of the strings on the headstock, looked more blue-grey then the chrome look of the d'addarios. Sounded very deep and punchy but missed high-end and had low tension.
And to round of: does anyone know strings that have the same deep sound as the originals, but with more brilliant highs?
Thanks!
ps: I will try to post some pics tonight
