help me pick new strings

so i need new strings for my ibanez sr500, and i play out of an acoustic b100 amp. i normally play with a pick on Phish and Grateful Dead music but sometimes i play with my fingers. I am also learning to slap. i currently use elixr strings and they are way to bright for me.
a friend recommended steel strings but i was wondering if he is right and if there is a specific kind i should get.

If you think Elixir are bright, most SS strings are going to be a lot brighter.

I never recommend flats, but they might be the ticket here. Although slapping might not be optimal.

Nickel rounds!
Much less metallic and bright than stainless steel strings but still suitable for slap. (Not to say flats can't be slapped... But I'd hate to try to learn how to slap and pop on flats. On the other hand... If u can slap on flats, u can slap on anything.

Yeah, Nickel will be warmer and less bright than steels. Go that route.
