Help me pick strings for my Jaguar bass

I play heavy rock (not metal) and am really loving my new Jag bass, but not the strings that came on it. I need to get a setup done on it, but want to pick some strings first.

I've been using GHS Med Light Boomers (45 - 100) and like the clarity but they are buzzy.

Also, I play with a pick and would like to cut down on pick noise, which is especially bad on this bass in active mode. I do understand that less pick noise also means less clarity, but I can be satisfied with a happy medium there.

I'm figuring I need to move to something a little heavier gauge, but also wondering about some of the tapewounds and coated strings, etc. I don't want something that's going to become a problem because of the pick knocking chunks of whatever off the string though...

Any suggestions?

What kind of sound would you like?

I might suggest a half round string in a 45-105 gauge, maybe D'Addario Half Rounds or SIT Silencers. These would help with the pick noise a bit. They will sound pretty close to rounds.

Maybe try flats. Great for hard rock. D'Addario Chromes in the 45-100 gauge are great on the Jaguar, in my experience. I have a Jaguar with the 50-105 Chromes on it,and I love it. They are a little higher tension; most flats fans in this forum like the 45-100 set.
