Help me recomend strings to a friend.

Sign in to disble this ad
He has a johnson freltess jazz bass with EMG pickups.

I want to recomend him strings to help get that really nice quite bright 'mwah' sound.

BEFORE YOU SAY SEARCH!! i have and found it quite difficult to find somewhere that says what strings i am looking for with those qualities, most people just seemed to do the usual 'i know, i'll post what strings i use'

So i want to recomend him some bright flatwound strings that will give him that 'mwah sound.

Thanks for any info.

If he wants flatwounds, then I'd say the Thomastics would be the best sounding. They won't be as bright sounding as roundwounds though but for flatwounds they have excellent mids and highs and have a well balanced sound.

I will say what I always say. D'addario strings are the best I have ever found!

So you want a combination of brightness and 'mhwa' sound, there is only one answer, Ground Wounds.
http://www.daddario.com/DADProducts....D=3&CLASS=ACCA

They are round wounds that have been ground down to produce the flat surface of the flatwounds, but with the brighter tone associated with round wounds.

That's all there is to it!

I have thomastik flats on a couple of basses and I can not describe them as bright they have decent higsh but not bright if you want bright flats I would say Rotosound 77's They are flat but Bright. Also GHS makes A set Called Bright flats. On the other hand if you really want that jaco Sound then Ground would or GHS Pressure wounds will do the trick. With flats you are probably not going to get the sound you are looking for.
