| Help with med-scale acoustic electric strings

Hello all, new guy here and couldn't find an existing thread for this on this forum, please forgive me if I've missed one.
I recently purchased a used Ibanez AEB10-BK acoustic-electric and am cleaning up the fretboard and replacing the strings. It's a medium scale, 32" from saddle to nut. I've never owned a bass of this scale, and I've never owned an acoustic bass before. I've been told that I need to use medium-scale strings only, though I'm having a hard time finding them specifically for acoustic bass. My questions are:
1) If that's what I need, anyone have a good reco on them, and know where I can find them online or around NYC or lower Westchester NY? (I just moved back and haven't found a favorite shop yet, didn't play much when I lived here before)
2) Are there reasons why I wouldn't consider using electric med-scale strings on it? This being my first acoustic bass I'm not assuming anything, though I've never done this on a 6-string acoustic guitar.
3) I'd like to use the same gauge strings that are on it now, and from what I know about the guitar it's still got the originals on it. Any way of finding out the stock size short of measuring with a caliper gauge? Ibanez has a chart that lists .045, .065, .80 & .100 for all their 4-strings, can I assume that this is true for their acoustics as well?
Thanks to all for any info, much appreciated. |
