Exclamation Help with my new string/stingray.

Sign in to disble this ad
ok so yesterday i bought a pack of D'addario Exl 160 nickel wound medium gauge (.050 - .105) round wounds and was going to restring my stingray with them. So all is going well i string up the E and the A without problems and then i get to the D and G. When i try and tighten the stings to get them into the right tuning (D and G) the strings keep slipping out of the machine head, like when i turn the tuning peg the stings just stay where they are and dont go with the machine head. This has never happened to me in 5 years of play, and i have no idea what to do or how to fix it. PLEASE HELP.

thanks guys.

Funny thing, this happens to me with the EBMM tuners as well.

Here is my fix. Remove the already trimmed string from your bass. Put the string down the barrel of the tuner and forcefully bend the string at the spot where it starts to bend around the post. Put the string back through the bridge and install as usual. Just make sure that the bend in the string is sitting snug on the edge of the post where it comes up from the tuner insert hole.

It seems like the angle is a little tough for the strings to make without a little help. They are not getting tight against the edge which is really what holds them.

Hope this all makes sense

.050 is mediung gauge?! I already find the .045 G to be quite tense.
