HELP! Mystery flatwound strings.

Sign in to disble this ad
I played a tobias fretless growler at a nearby Sam Ash and it had some really nice feeling strings on it. The sales people didn't know what they were. Perhaps you can help...

- the strings looked like they were ground down because they were round over the headstock and flat over the fingerboard.

- they were silk wrapped on the tuner end (I forgot to check the bridge end). Navy Blueish / Purplish color silk.

- they felt like steel to me, and had that greyish color rather than the bright chrome nickels have

- they had a bright tone for flats.

- they felt like a medium gauge to me.

Any ideas? I'd like to pick them up but don't know what they were...

Sounds like Chromes. I just put a set on my fretless. Love em!

Next time look at the ball ends. Chromes have multi-colored ends (green, red, black, brass). They are grey and have blue silk. Don't put them on your bass as it's a one way street.

In Montana they have signs over bars that say,"Before engaging your mouth, make sure your mind is in gear!"
