Sign in to disble this ad
the bass is a Godin freeeway 5 string PJ. It has both through body and through bridge, but the wraps wont fit through the holes. either hole. I have only tried the B string. .125 guage. Can the threaded wrap be removed?

Start hacking away at the silks. They are just there to protect your hardware, you won't compromise the strings by cutting them off.

I've taken a dremel tool to the holes in multiple different bridges. Not at all rare to need to, especially if moving up to flats or a larger guage strings. Just be sure to smooth the edges of the enlarged hole when done.

I had to take the silk of the B-string on my Chromes, going through the bridge on my Pbass V and I DO like my strings! No worries!

the best solution is to take the bridge off the bass, clamp it in a vise, and drill out the holes so that bigger strings do fit.

it's not hard, as these bridges are usually brass or zinc, and will drill out pretty easily.

Just be glad they are flats
I had Fender nylon tapewounds that wouldnt fit a "Fender" style P bass (SX)
and tried to whittle down the silks and guess what?
I had what looked a pile that looked like a cassette tape exploded at my feet
what good is 1 plain E string and 3 wrapped strings?
it all went into the garbage can new strings and all
