HELP! PLEASE

Sign in to disble this ad
okay so ive always used Denatured Alcohal to clean my strings and it does a great job. I now have DR black beauties that are in deep need of a good cleaning. but im not sure if the alcohal will mess with the coating or paint on the strings? ive tried sending DR emails regarding this but have never received an answer. anybody got any suggestions comments? i dont wanna soak them in it and see tomorrow theyve lost all color or something liek that.

What makes you sure your strings need a cleaning? Do they still have their coating on them?

Maybe they're just sweaty and gross from playing in sticky humid climates?

You might try using the alcohol on a part of the string that wraps around the peg first to see if it does anything bad to it. Kinda like testing a part of the carpet for "colorfastness" before you remove a stain with someone's product...

Time to update this thread. What did you find out BassBoy? Is it okay to use the cleaner on your strings?

well, it was kinda in-between good and bad lol. it cleaned them good and made them sound like new again, but it did affect the paint and coating just a lil bit but nothing too bad. just kinda faded the paint and they dont look as bright, but im due for a new set of strings anyway. so idk. i guess if you really want to clean them and make them sound good, go for it. they just wont look as "bright" wen your done.
