Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all. I have just purchased a spector rebop 5 and brought replacement strings for it...dr hi beams 40-120. (which is smaller than the strings the bass came with) but the B string will not fit in the bridge its to BIG!...are there certain strings you have to use with spector basses.http://www.talkbass.com/forum/images...es/bawling.gif

I have a Rebop 4 and have tried a few strings. The best to me are D'adarrio standard steel set. I don't like them on other bass', but it brings out the spector tone on these.

It's a taperwound B, I have the same issue with my schecter. I know Elixer makes a taperwound B but I don't know who else does

I have used the following:
Sadowski w/tapered B(130)
LaBella Slappers(128)B
And now Ken Smith Burners w/tapered B(130)

Call me "unimaginative" but....for my new four-string NS-2J EX, I use the same gauge (45-105) that came with the bass...I even bought 3 extra sets of the Spector nickel strings due largely in part to liking them BUt also because of the taperwound on the E string.. I do have a set of same gauge DR Hi-Beams put away though and will ber trying them out.. I guess I'm also trying to avoid having to get the bass re-set up if I change gauges. That's cool, I like the 45-105 anyway!!

That seems odd that the bridge would have such tight tolerances. My NS5 will accommodate a 130 B.
I would contact PJ at Spector or DR strings for suggestions.
