Heres a good one: Dual-course (8-string) F#BEA guages

I do not think anyone sells a set, I just want the gauges.

Also: is there a mathematical formula or a rule of thumb for determining octave string gauges?

Boink. Check sig for string tension stuff up to .145. For the F#0 I'd recommend .175 to .185. I like the lighter one myself.

It'd be the same set I use on the dual course 4 I am in the midst of - .185/.090 .135/.070 .100/.050 .080/.035 - but mine is E/e

I beg to differ - if each string performs well (meaning you are using strings that actually WORK at those tunings) there will be zero issues.

Where do I, er, get these, if i were to get them? Like the sets? or would I have to ask SIT very nicely to make me a set or sell me the large strings?

Initially you can come by the two separate 4 string sets - 8 string sets will take a little time.

There's a site launching no later than memorial day that will let you come by them.
