Cool Herrick Needs Flats For 5-string Precision Bass

Please recommend me a good set of 5-string flatwound strings where the B can be strung through the body without any problems. This rules out the 5-string set of D'Addario Chromes sadly I'd like to keep this purchase below $40.

The Fender 90505 set will work fine for you.

A lot like Chromes.

Lakland Flats work great on the P5. I buy them direct from Lakland.

OP, what is the winding length of your current strings?
If you have a through-body string mounted, make a mark on the string at the tuner side of the nut.
Remove the string and measure. This gives the winding length required for your bass.

For example, my SR5 measures 36.0 inches from ball to nut.
My new Lo-Rider SS has a 37.75 inch winding length and 2.0" between the nut and closest tuning peg.
This places the end of the winding length between the nut and tuning peg, where it should be.

Flats that work thru body for a fiver?

D'Addario Chromes super long
GHS Precision Flats Long Plus
La Bella thru body
Thomastik Infeld
Rotosound Jazz 77
DR Flats

As far as keeping it below your price point I do not see that being a problem...

Sorry, I should've specified that I'm not concerned with stringing through the body. The problem I ran into with the D'Addario Chromes is that the B string is too thick to be strung through the body. It can go in but it requires some work to get it in & out. The long scale Chromes were actually long enough to be strung through & wrapped around the tuning pegs. I haven't tried stringing it through the bridge so I'll give that a try tonight. Thanks for the help everyone

Edit: The B string fit through the bridge but it moved the saddle around. It eventually went through with minimal problems though. Think I'll just stick with the D'Addario Chromes since I like them so much.
