I did a search but not much came up as far which kind will give you more growl.
I already know about how one is stiffer, etc. etc... thanks!

| | | | thanks...btw, what happened to your clips of the Incubus song?! I loved hearing that thing! Believe it or not, it's one of the reasons I got a SS2.
Any more opinions on hex/roung growl are welcome.

I have a few SSII clips handy here: http://www.artistcollaboration.com/u...20-%20Weep.mp3 http://www.artistcollaboration.com/u...SII%20Badu.mp3 http://www.artistcollaboration.com/u...II%20Crush.mp3 http://www.artistcollaboration.com/u...SII%20Demo.mp3 http://www.artistcollaboration.com/u...Jamiroquai.mp3
Hey, if you have an SSII then you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a good growl . If it weren't for the narrow string spacing (on the 5-string), I might have kept mine. It had one of the best, most unique recorded tones I've heard
For what it's worth, I used DR Hi-Beams on my SSII, while I had it. Still use Hi-Beams on my Ken Lawrence too. One of my favorite strings. Round-Core.

| | | | How do you get such a sweet sound out of that bass man? I can't figure it out...I think I read once you recorded these with a simple DI. Which is what confuses me.

I remember with the SSII, I would just turn the mid EQ on the bass down a tiny bit, and maybe the bass EQ up a bit. Aside from that, the strings play the biggest part I think. The DR Hi-Beams I had on it were probably about a year old at the time. So they had a more mellow, deep tone. The same set is on my Ken Lawrence now, about 2 years old and still going strong

If you're looking for a slightly "rock"ier tone, go with hexes.
