Hi Beam Question and Request

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, I'm really interested in getting a set of Hi Beams set up on my Warwick BO 5 when I take it in for a set up. I have a few questions, about the B string, and a request:

1. How loose is the .125 B string on the set?

2. How does the B string sound compared to the other strings?

3. Is the out put of the B string equivalent to the other strings ?

3. This is to anyone who has a 5 string bass strung with Hi Beams; would you please post a sound clip of you using your bass, particularly the B string.

Thanks for any responses.

Lot's of posts on these strings if you do a search.

I've been using the 45-125's for a number of years now and love everything about them.. the crisp tone, the moderate to low tension, the smooth feel and the very long life.

I have no trouble with the 125 B string tone or feel, and I have 34" scale instrument. However, I have very high end 34" scale instruments with VERY stiff necks (classic straight sawn one piece maple neck). So, the basses are very forgiving of B strings, and I've yet to find a brand of B string that didn't sound great on my basses. Some don't dig the tone of the Hi Beam B as you go up the neck, but I have not noticed any problems at all with intonation, tone or feel.

The make a 34-130 set, if the 125 makes you nervous.

I have the hi beams on my MTD 535 (125-45) and they seem to work rather well. Like anything else it all depends on your rig and set up.

Well, I took my bass in and the tech said that it would be too risky to file the saddle. He explained that it would leave too little metal (as my saddles are steel) on either side of the height adjustment screws. So, I was forced to get Warwicks instead. I hope they work out.

Why in the hell would you need to file your saddle to put on HiBeams? What size B were you using before?
