High C fretless at juststrings.com

I placed an order for DR 5 string fretless strings and they will be backordered for some time (already waited a month). Ive decided to go ahead and try out E A D G C. I've scoured their site looking for either a flatwound set or a single flatwound high c.

So... my question is: If they don't have a flatwound high c where else on the internets can I find one?

So if you know of a place that can either sell a 5 string set with a high C or just a high C single let me know and if its just the single C let me know what you think the best 4 string flatwound set would be the best with it. Thanks.

The real issue is finding a flatwound that is offered in a 6-string set, since that is about the only way that a single C might be available. I have used the TI Jazz Flats like this and they are very good E-C. I have been directed to check out Elites, but I never found a source for the high-C. Both of my fretless 5's are strung EADGC and I use Zon Nickels on both of them. Before finding a source for singles I just bought 6 string sets and ate the cost of the B. In many cases it is either the same $$$, or even cheaper since there is a premium placed on singles by many sellers.

Check out something like: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search

Pyramids, NS, Rotos, and TIs jump right out.

No problem. Flats available with a wound 0.030 or smaller are rare, so that is what I was getting at. I also forgot to mention that the Zon strings I currently use are nickel *roundwounds*.

Good luck with the quest, and don't forget to update this thread if you find a good solution.

the high C string has such a small wind to begin with...

maybe look for some 6 string compression wound strings... ken smith makes some...

they offer the best of both worlds...

Alright well I got a set... I did a rotosound 4 string 45-105 fretless and tacked on a single string rotosound fretless 30 or 33 or somewhere around there.

They seem very nice... I'm going to need to adjust my truss to deal with the extra tension. The cheap pickups of the bass do much better with the high c as opposed to the low b... I don't think I've ever heard a crappier low b than what this bass produces! So I'm loving the C.

Only saved about 10 bucks compared to a 6 string set... but that 10 bucks can get me a lot of taco bell!

A side question...

My fretless is an inexpensive SX 5 with rosewood fingerboard. I have always thought that roundwounds would eat through the rosewood. This would take a long time to actually happen, right?

I'm really liking the flats but for future reference I would like to know. thanks.

Rosewood is pretty hard. It will take a LONG time to wear significantly, and even then you should be able to have it surfaced rather than having the board replaced. Personally I think a lot of the roundwound fretless fears are unfounded.
