High F string

I'm thinking of re-stringing my 5 string bass tenor style, A-D-G-C-F but I only use D'Addario Half rounds and they don't make a 20 or 22 guage bass string for the high F, but they do make a 20 & 22 guage Half round string for guitars.

Has anyone here ever tried putting a regular guitar string on a bass? Any luck? Are they long enough for a 34" scale bass?

Michael Manring has done this. I know he used D'Addario, and that they sell individual strings too, but you have to order directly from them. Here's an example.

Guitar tension is half of bass tension - and the core on a string that thin is no bigger than a .010. You won't be able to bring it up to tension and play it very vigorously if at all.

Consider a plain - far more stalwart.
