I'm looking for a set of high tension, steel strings for a 5 stringer (tuned BEADG). 34" scale.
Can any of you recommend something?
Sorry for the short post but I'm in the office.

I've found the Lo-Riders to be pretty well-balanced with nice mids. |

I have read this many times on TB and had my local music store guys say the same thing. I think it comes from the sales literature they send to the dealers that describes the lowriders as being (higher tension) than the other strings they make.
I purchased five different brands of strings to try out and did my own little unscientific test to see which sets had the higher tension. All the strings were the same gauge 45 to 105 four string sets. The test bass was a Stingray. Unscientific (feel) results below are low to high. Rotosound Swing Bass 66 (power lines)
GHS Boomers
Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky
D’addario XL’s
DR Lowriders nickel (wet noodles)
The GHS, Ernie Ball, and D’addario strings are all very close in tension but the Rotosounds and Lowriders are worlds apart.

The other strings in the sets are about the same IMO, but I noticed a world of difference in the B. |

I should have stated that I was using four string sets and that the Lo-Riders were nickel not stainless. I will update my post.

| | Uber Bass Geek :p | | Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Middle GA | | Hi, my new DJ sig 5 string came with the loosest , lowest tension strings I've seen so far. They were the lakland SS's. I already went through 3 set's trying to find enough tension to get rid of fret buzz. I tried rotosound preasure wound, they were not much better. Then I tried rotosound Hybrid RB40 nickel and steel, and same thing. RB means rubber bands, with that set. I put a set of D'addario half rounds and finally, I can setup the bass, and the noise is minimal, but so is the tone. I've been thinking of getting the Lo-Riders, but now I read this.... confusing. I need to find a good tight and quiet set...... help!
Let me add that the last 3 sets of roto's I tried were terrible. *** is going on with rotosound strings? They started dieng shortly after Mr. Entwistle did, it seems..
It's amazing what diference a string can make to the way a bass can sound, and be setup, isn't it?
