Highbeams and Smiths....any comparison?

This questions probably been touched on elsewhere but, a fresh perspective is nice.

Ive been using Smith Rock Masters for a long friggin time and I like em but, they are not easy to find in your local store or GC so, I tried DR Lo-Riders this weekend. They were nice strings but certainly lack the punch of the Smiths. I kinda expected them to as theyre supposed to be more mellow. So, lesson learned.

So, Ive heard the Highbeams are really bright. Same has been said about the Smiths. Before I go blow $30 on the DRs, do they compare soundwise to the Smiths? Are they close? Im just trying the DR's because theyre a heck of alot easier to get, not going through the mailorder route.

I've never tried Hi-Beams vs. Rock Masters.
I just did compare Sunbeams vs. Smith Compressors on my fretless Zon, and the Smiths were the clear winner for me.

Im gonna up this cuz I still need an answer. I bought the Lo Riders since the original post but they are a little dull sounding. Im afraid the HI Beams will be too bright. The only reason Im checking at all is cuz, GC sells DR and nobody here sells Smith so its a matter of convenience only. My sound is really set to the Smiths but, they are hard to get quickly if needed.

I find the high beams to be pretty bright. You might consider the Marcus Miller Fat Beam set. I find them to be a really nice string that mellows out a bit and lasts a long time. They are a few bucks more, but worth it in my opinion. I also sent you a PM.

Rock Masters SS and Hi-Beams are my two favorite strings but the Hi-Beams win the contest by a slight margin IMO. To me, they are very similar.
