Higher Tension B

Sign in to disble this ad
So I've got set of DR Nickel Lo-Riders with a .130 B on my Greg Bennett Fairlane FN5 five stringer.

To keep the rattle out of the the B, I've got the relief around .020 and the string height around 5/32nd on the last fret.

Is there a string that has a tighter tension, so I can reduce the amount of relief? OR... Does that relief sound excessive?

My fret board radius seems to be about 15 and everything I read says .010 to .014. Fender says .010, Dan Erlewine recommends .014.

So thoughts?

Daddario makes a 135 and I think a 145 in nickel. Going to a 135 from the 130 you have will probably be a fairly subtle change, you might want to try a 145 if you want it to really closely match the tension of your higher strings. They also have a string tension chart on their site you may want to check out.

Take a look at Dean Markley SR2000s - their .135 is a three wrap and is awfully lively.
