Homerun, D'Addario!

I used to use D'Addario XL's, began using other strings, came back to them and left again on my never ending quest of string tone supremacy. I am happy to say that I am using D'Addario again. Like many on TB and in the bass world balanced tension string sets appeal to me. I wanted to try them and had some concerns I posted in another thread. I decided to go ahead and give them a shot though and ordered a set (the .33 lb set Jason built for me out of singles) from http://www.basstringsonline.com and I put them on my recently acquired Valenti STJ5

All I can say is WOW! These strings sound killer and they feel even better. The lighter gauge feels great (I was worried about this). I also like that D'Addario extended their standard sets a little bit because my Valenti is a 35 inch scale and they fit perfectly!

D'Addario really seems to be a great company and their rep on the forum Don Dawson is awesome and helpful. D'Addario listens to the bass community and for that I am thankful! I really love these balanced tension XL's!

Glad to hear your joy of D'Addario. They are a great string company and are a go to if I am iffy about others. Used to be an EB slinky fan but now its XLs for a good nickel round.

Speaking of balanced tension. I havent researched enough probably but I would like to try to build or find a set of balanced flats. I wish GHS made a balanced set. I love the P flats. But on occasion I find my E to be dull. Im thinking a better balanced E would help. Ive grown more and more into a string hound. Maybe I need to get some Chromes next time around.

D'Addario is supposed to begin selling all of their strings as singles again and a balanced set of Chromes could be made.

I have been a long time user of their regular light gauge strings and love them. D'Addario does good work.

I didnt know Jason could do that with the GHS's. I will have to give it a try. Maybe some more tension on the E string would do it.

I believe La Bella Deep Talkin' flats are supposed to be balanced-tension.

Back on topic, I agree! I'm a D'Addario fanboy for life. I have D'Addario Tapewounds on my 5er and I will be ordering a set for my Ibanez AEB5E acoustic in the future.

I've used XL Nickels, Chromes and Tapewounds and I am completely sold on D'Addario. Balanced-tension XLs are on my wish list!

I've been using a XLB 105-75-55-40 set that I like a lot, especially for balanced tension when dropping D on the 105 (and going back and forth).

I use their nylon tape wounds on my fretless. Holy cow they are amazing.

With the exception of my fretless, I was using XL's exclusively for years on my Carvins and SR5. It's only when I got my Spector that I started experimenting with other brands due to scale and alternate tuning considerations.

I've still been using XL's and ProSteels along with other brands, most notably DR and now Circle K. I love the ability with D'Addario strings to make custom sets. My biggest obstacle is the thickness of the winding on the ball end fitting in the Spector bridges, so that's a big reason I started checking out CK.

With all my Spectors being 35" scale (including the 4-stringers), it's been very close on whether the heavy gauges are long enough. I know they make the heavy gauges in tapered super longs for the XL's - I'd love to see that for the ProSteels as well.

I agree. I played DRs for the longest time before switching to flats. Now that I'm mostly back on rounds I decided to check out XLs for kicks. I really liked them. Price isn't a huge factor since I don't change my strings that much, but I really don't see a reason to use sunbeams over XLs. It's nice knowing that I could get 2-3 twin packs and pretty much be set for a year.

D'Addario has extended the length of their regular XL's and Prosteels. I just put a regular set of XL's on a 35 inch scale Valenti and they fit perfectly. Tapered B is highly recommended.

Same here. I'm eager to give the ProSteels a try. From the looks of things on the tension chart, my best bet for balanced ProSteels is the light-gauge set 40-60-75-95-125. When it's new string time, I'll either get these or, who knows, there might be a more balanced set available.

I just started using D'addario's Xl's on one of my basses and love them I was surprised how much I like the lighter gauge.
