I love the tone on the Jazz at the start.
How can I get flats to growl and sound this good? I have a fretless jazz and not a fretted but I would be grateful for any advice you have. |
Well, that guy IS digging in and the sound of the string-meets-fret is a very big part of what you're hearing. But on your fretless, yeah, just experiment with EQ and where you're playing with your right hand--if you play farther up toward the neck you might be able to get a little more "spank" with the strings hitting the fretboard.
I love that sound too---flats are so often considered just for thumpiness, but I like OLD flats and the treble boosted for funk!
