How do I restring my Rogue LX406?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone, I've been playing a Rogue LX406 6-string bass for a while and yesterday I broke my (low) B string. I've been meaning to get some new strings anyway but as of right now I just want to remove the dangling string. The bass has an odd bridge and it seems like the end of the string comes out on the other side of the bass. There are six holes on the back of the bass with 6 little peg things inside that don't seem like they move around at all. Is it possible for me to restring the instrument without taking a screwdriver to the bridge? Should I wait until I get new strings to remove the string? If anybody can help I'd appreciate it much, I'm definitely not going to start unscrewing before I get my new strings. Thanks

P.S. The bass can be seen here http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....ass?sku=519246

Nice looking bass. Its strung through the body. You should be able to pull the broken string back through bridge and out the back of the body. The "little peg things" are probably loose and you may want to remove the one that your B runs through.

Very similar to my Peavey Grind

Very nice, I'm going to be picking up some flatwounds myself.

As for my broken string, I know that it's strung through the body but the weird thing is that the "little peg thing" isn't coming loose at all. I've tried to push the string through from the front but it won't budge a bit. I suppose I should try and use some tweezers or something to try and pull it through the back of the body but for some reason I'm facing a lot of resistance when I try to move it. I've tried using a pen to move it around and see if it's loose but like I've said it's not moving very much at all. Maybe there is crud or something in the holes in the back that is blocking it from pulling through? I don't think this is the case and as a last resort I might take it to my local guitar center. Thanks for the help though, if you want I could take a few close up pictures of it tomorrow so that you can get a better look.
