How do Rotosound 77s sound compared to "dead" 66s?

By dead, I mean half-a-year-old. I'm looking for something new-but-not-quite-different for my fretted Jazz Bass. I had a set of 77s on my fretless once, but I no longer have that bass or the strings, so I'm wondering about how they compare to the 66s. I've been stringing up with 40-95 sets of 66s consistently for the last year (aside from two brief flings with DRs which didn't last long), but now in my time of "I should probably put a new set of strings on my bass," I'm thinking about the 77s, so that I may never have to worry about restringing again.

Nothing alike, in feel, tension, or tone, IMO.

I use Roto 66 LC 40-95's on my vintage Fender basses. Love em new but they become dead quite soon...

Agreed .

They are bright for flats, maybe even brighter than an old 66 set, but a different kind of bright, if that makes sense! Its like the note is more condensed with the flats, less sustain but a more powerful sound than dead rounds.

I find the tone of Roto flats (once worn in- their new sound brightness is very different to the new brightness of the rounds) to be very similar to worn in Swingbass rounds. Feel and tension are very different, but of all the brands that have both flats and rounds, I find Rotos are the closest to each other.
