Question How do Rotosound nickels compare to the Swing Bass steels?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've always been a Rotosound Swing Bass fan and I'd love to use them on my fretless but I have the feeling they might just be a bit too hard on the fretboard, so I've been thinking of getting the nickel equivalent.

Do they sound a lot less bright than the "classic" Swing Bass strings? I like both Nickel and Stainless Steel strings but sometimes the extra brightness of a SS string can be mighty handy in my opinion. Did anyone ever A/B those two? Thanks in advance.

I have compared the nickel with the stainless steal swing bass.I will try to explain but sorry for my english speaking.

In terms of frequencys I think they are closed but the nickel one have a different voice anyway due to nickel. If you have tryed other brand nickel you can imagine the nickel swing as a stainless swing with nickel... Closed but in nickel. They have lots of midrange like the stainless but the treble are different (more organic and warmer).
I prefer the stainless sound for that kind of strings. With strings with a big fundamental I prefer nickel (ghs boomers, fender 7250).

The touch is a bit smoother with nickel wich I don' t like that much.I like the rough feel of the stainless one.
And finally I prefer the gauge 45-65-80-105, only exists with stainless.
