Question How to ID my string type.

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a 2010 Ibanez SR500PB that I bought new from GC. I would like to know what type of strings it has. None of the GC people at the store knew.

Can I tell a flat from a round just by looking?

You should be able to, take a look at the difference between the two in this picture. Top string is roundwound, bottom is flatwound.

I know my local music store restrings all their basses with D'Addario Nickle Round Wounds. But GC might use different ones. They're almost certainly rounds, though.

99% that they are 45-105 guage, roundwound. Probably nickel too because they are slightly cheaper...As for the brand it's hard to know and Ibanez doesn't state it on their website. I'd say a good new set will probably be an upgrade from the stock strings, especially if it stayed on the GC floor...

I posted the same question on the Bass forum and MikeM replied that all new Ibanez mid price basses come with Elixir rounds.

I am able to see that mine are, in fact, rounds.

Thanks for your replies.

Is Mike Mills using nickel rounds here? You can see near the start how the strings shine and they sounds brighter than flats.
