I've broken 4 strings.
G twice
D once
A once

It seems the strings that came with my bass were cheap, maybe.

Maybe two....
One when I was just starting and didn't know how to tune, and I would guess one broke at some point in the last 10 years, but I don't recall.

1 in 20 years and over 1000 gigs - when I boiled them. I don't understand the string breaking thing. I play hard too. Slap, hit, leave them on for months sometimes. Hope my luck holds out.

Maybe it's something in our sweat.

Hm. That's interesting seeing as I sweat a lot. All of the strings ive broken have ripped above the bottom wrapping.

Every time I changed strings was because I had broken one of them. Some G's and one E I believe.

I've broken each string probably a half dozen times. One time during the first week of a tour I broke 3 E strings in the course of about 6 shows! (turns out my saddle was pushed way back and created a serious angle on the string) Haven't broken any since then, and that was about 3 years ago.

Zero, but I've only been playing for a few years, and don't really play that hard.

It's strange finishing a set with a three stringed bass, isn't it.

Broke my first one tonight -- brand new set of La Bella flats and the G just snapped after about an hour of doing merely some walking bass lines.

I've broken 1 string in the 8 years or so that I've been playing bass.

If you count (electric) guitar, hundreds.
