How Popular are Half Rounds on Fretlesses?

I got really cool fretless G&L L-105 that I custom ordered last fall. It has a nice, lined, ebony fingerboard. Like most fretlesses, it came with roundwounds and it sang beautifully when I plugged it in. The problem is that I know the roundwounds will eventually wear even a hard wood like ebony, so I removed the D'Addario roundwounds and installed D'Addario half rounds. The bass still sings exactly the same, the only difference is that the touch is much smoother, and I know fingerboard life will be much extended. Is the use of half rounds on fretlesses common? To me, at least, round wounds are a perfect string for the fetless player who likes brightness but would prefer to avoid too many trips to his tech.

This is my fretless:

I don't know of many people who use Halfrounds for anything, but if you like them, that is all that's important. You really won't get any significant wear from rounds on an ebony FB, maybe a little bit of grooving, but I seriously doubt you'll get anything that'll affect playability for a couple decades at least. But if you like the sound of the Halfrounds, I see no reason not to use them.

Feedback seems to indicate that the halfrounds may be an unnecessary precaution, but I like the sound and feel. I think I will stay with them for my fretless.
